As summer approaches, there might be weddings, graduations, family reunions  and various other celebrations on your social calendar. And hunting for a new outfit for a formal event requires a fair amount of time and effort.

But a new hairstyle might be the easy answer when strapped for time. It is after all, a one-stop shop – your hair salon.

Check out a few hair looks to turn heads at your next big summer bash.

DIANE SAWYER, 73

It is said the legendary news anchor got her big break when she coloured her naturally brown hair to honey blond. Whether there is truth to that rumour or not, Sawyer has mostly maintained a blond shoulder length hair style for most of her career.  Seen here at a party last year at the Museum of Modern Art, her side parted hair style, swept-to-one-side bangs and soft curls looks effortlessly elegant. This breezy style is picture-perfect for hot summer evenings.

NICOLE KIDMAN, 51

It’s often tempting to style long hair into towering undos when it comes to formal events. For a gala at Lincoln Center in New York City last May, the actress took a breezier approach with her long hair. With long strands gently framing her face and the rest of her hair loosely pulled and pinned at the back, the look radiated modern glamour.

JAMIE LEE CURTIS, 60

Here’s proof, if need be, that a sexagenarian can sizzle with style in short white hair. At this year’s Golden Globes Awards, the actress had her boyish short hair boldly brushed backwards – away from her face – making for high-impact drama. However, note the softness and slight volume which makes this style flattering instead of slicked down and lacquered, which can be too severe. And, of course, this is a hairstyle which begs for statement earrings.

A side part with a cascade of big and gentle curls is a hairstyle which came to define several screen sirens of yesteryear. And here at the closing ceremony at the recent Cannes Film Festival, this iconic French actress proves this classic hairstyle still exudes movie glamour.

VIOLA DAVIS, 53

The Oscar-winning actress frequently changes her hairstyle – from spiky to curly – but always short in length.  For the British Academy Film Awards in London earlier this year, she went with a natural afro but teased out and shaped. The result was a look which was simple yet bold and dramatic.

MICHELLE YEOH, 56

The soft curls and waves of her hair style gives the Crazy Rich Asians actress a youthful look. And what appears to be some add-on hair pieces in the back, give volume and length to this elegant look.

ANNA WINTOUR, 69

The soft bob has been the Vogue editor’s signature look for decades. But while simple and lady like, it is truly the one hair style that  works 24/7 and for every occasion. Seemingly, without changing a single strand of hair, it works for her whether she’s sitting front row at a fashion show or as the mother-of-the-bride at her daughter’s wedding or as seen here at one of the fashion world’s most outrageously glamorous event, the MET Ball.

DEE OCLEPPO, 52

No matter how grand the event, the key to a great hairstyle is to have it look uncomplicated, yet elegant. Former model, handbag designer and Mrs. Tommy Hilfiger, seen here at the amFAR Cannes Gala 2019, captures that spirit perfectly. Her hair is simply styled into gentle waves.

HELEN MIRREN, 73

Why not try a new, fun, temporary hair colour? Like the award-winning actress, who made a red carpet appearance at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, sporting a candy floss pink hair do. If you try this head-turning look, just keep the hair style simple – all the more to showcase the colour.
