A boon for collectors

Fifty-Plus.net readers will be especially interested in a new series of stamps that honor some familiar people, places and things from the not-too-distant past. Canada Post has issued a Guy Lombardo stamp among the first 16 stamps from its special Millennium Collection. A total of four souvenir sheets, each featuring four different subjects, are now available at participating postal outlets.

All 16 stamps were previously available in the Millennium Collection, a prestigious, limited edition hardcover book. The book features 68 original, new stamp issues and exclusive black and white photos that celebrate Canadians and their achievements over the past century.

The first souvenir sheet will feature bandleader Guy Lombardo, opera singer Portia White, pianist Glenn Gould and the father of Quebec song, Félix Leclerc. The second sheet will pay tribute to the Calgary Stampede, Cirque du Soleil, Hockey Night in Canada and La Soirée du hockey.

The third sheet showcases IMAX, the animation firm Softimage, Ted Rogers Senior and Sir William Stephenson, with the final of the first four sheets featuring the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts, the Canada Council, the Natnal Film Board and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

All of these stamps and First Day Covers are available at participating postal outlets, or by mail order from the National Philatelic Centre at 1-800-565-4362.
