Extra, extra… Hear all about it!

VoicePrint, the audio news and information network of The National Broadcast Reading Service, is the world’s largest broadcast reading service.

Round the clock service provides up-to-date readings of Canadian daily English language newspapers and periodicals, including CARPNews.

Carried from coast to coast on cable TV or cable FM to over 5 million homes in Canada.

Programming includes national and international news stories, business reports, sports scores and features, human interest stories, health reports, items about pets, stories on science and technology, coverage of the arts, and television highlights. Information on disability issues is broadcast daily.

Only 30 per cent of its audience is vision-impaired.

Several hundred volunteers — the majority 50-plus — man the microphones, primarily in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa areas.

Fund raising has provided some areas with the equipment to switch to limited local programming, for reading of regional publications.

The staff of about a dozen employees are a multicultural mix. Half are vision-impaired.
