New book talks of CESO’s unsung heroes

CESO (Canadian Executive Services Overseas) is an organization of retired executives who decided to share their skills with people in the developing countries of the world. Author Jim Lotz’s new book Sharing a Lifetime of Experience chronicles first person accounts of the "joys, challenges and rewards of these Canadians who are really making a difference."

For over 30 years, CESO has been sending volunteers to many under developed countries, and the stories related in the book give a glimpse of the problems and challenges that were faced — and overcome.

As well as tackling projects in far flung places, these retired engineers, teachers, executives, architects, hotel operators and other specialists have worked diligently with our own aboriginal people. A forestry project in Bolivia; a small furniture factory in The Philippines (and a hurricane to boot); a hospital construction job in Haiti; building houses, roads, schools in settlements for the native people in Fort George, B.C.

For over 30 years CESO has been sending volunteers to many of the under-developed countries, and the stories related in Lotz’s book give a glimpse of the problems and challengeshat were faced and overcome. Their experiences make heartwarming reading, and should make us proud to know how much Canadian seniors have to offer the world.
