New information service for travellers

People with disabilities should have an easier time planning their trips, by using a new service that launches this month on the Internet. Information on travel, health and medicine topics will be available in 18 languages at the website : mediguard.net.

Details of hotel facilities, which are essential for many people with limited mobility, will be listed in their entirety. The core of the system is an 18-language hotel databank which, during its one-year test phase, collected users in more than 75 nations.

The hotel databank was developed in close cooperation with leading institutions, and supplies essential information about hotel features, such as door widths, size of lifts, and special facilities. More than 100 search criteria are linked to information in a multilingual databank.

Based in Germany, Mediguard is managed by a medical doctor who, in his years of experience in medical emergency and holiday rescue services, became acquainted with the specific needs of people with limited mobility.

The site also contains many more useful pieces of information for seniors and handicapped people: contact details and links to institutions and organizations such travel companies, care services, embassies, spa administrations, plastic surgeons, self-help groups, animal accommodation, important health institutions, and public service departments.
