Shopping the Sales: Main And Local’s Quirky Canadian-Inspired Stocking Stuffers

Most nations celebrate their little quirks with great pride by rendering them into trinkets, souvenirs or blatantly printing them on a t-shirt. Sometimes that little quirk is more akin to a full-blown irritant, exclusive to a particular city and the cause of endless complaints from the locals. Typically, it becomes a running joke.
That’s what the Montreal-based company, Main and Local, tries to capture with their gloriously colourful novelties. From socks featuring the Prime Minister’s face to coffee mugs in the shape of a bagel, these go beyond the maple-leaf motif.
The company was founded in 2014 by three friends, Andrew Cohen, Jonny Goldmaker and David Prince. “We wanted to find a way to create products that Canadians feel a connection to, and that reminds them of their home, in a comical and creative way,” Goldmaker says in a statement.
These are items that Canadians – or travellers who feel a connection with the Great White North – can appreciate.
Main and Local sells their witty souvenirs to over 200 retailers across the country. But their e-commerce site currently has a great pre-Christmas sale, with some items marked down to as little as a loonie, making them perfect stocking stuffers or office Secret Santa gifts.
