Best in Canada: French Twist: Montreal

The Mike room at the Opus Hotel in Montreal

Opus Hotel Montreal The acclaimed Opus Hotel in Montreal has been honoured with awards from Wallpaper and Fortune magazines, and its restaurant made Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot List.
CHECK-IN Designed by Canadian interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg and revamped by Robert Bailey, Opus’s contemporary style is a blend of modern design with a dash of history chic, à la Old Montreal. It’s within walking distance from the financial district, the restaurants and bars of the entertainment district, Old Montreal and the Plateau Mont-Royal. GOOD EATS Want to stay in? The hotel’s on-site dining establishment, Koko Restaurant + Bar, is helmed by chef Matthew Piercy. The cuisine is modern pan-Asian cuisine with a Western flare. It’s a shared-menu style “just like you would find across Asia. Portions are perfectly sized so that you can order more items to try and experience,” he says. Take this insider tip: “I love our Malabar shrimp, and the unagi maki roll is great.”
