Airline supports Olympics hopefuls

Canada’s athletes are often hampered by a lack of funding for their training and other expenses. Now anyone with some spare Aeroplan points can help out. Air Canada has developed a major donor program to help Canadian athletes realize their dream of qualifying for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

The objective of the program is to donate 20 million Aeroplan miles to the Go Canada Go travel fund to help send Canada’s top athletes to different qualifying competitions around the world. To start off the program, Air Canada has already donated two million Aeroplan miles.

“For many athletes, the Olympics represent the ultimate destination,” said Air Canada’s Douglas D. Port. “As Canada’s flag carrier and dedicated sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Association, Air Canada is committed to helping them achieve this goal.”

Until April 30, 2000, Aeroplan members can donate Aeroplan miles by calling Air Canada’s special Go Canada Go line, 1-888-352-9679. They’ll also accept cash, if you’re so inclined, at 1-900-565-4444. Each contribution of Aeroplan miles or money to the Go Canada Go travel fund also gives you an in a contest for a trip for two to attend the 2000 Summer mes in Sydney, Australia, including airfare, hotel and Olympic tickets.
