All aboard for the next millennium

If you have ever wanted to travel through time (but didn’t have the money, or time, come to think of it) VIA Rail Canada has an ultimate train experience for you. VIA is converting some of its passenger trains to host a Millennium’s Eve celebration that will transport you into the future – at least symbolically. An added bonus is the fact that you will end up exactly where you started once the New Year arrives.

A total of six trains in different parts of the country will be designated as Millennium trains, to give Canadians an opportunity to greet the 21st century on rails. The festivities will take place aboard three special trains – whose only destination will be a memorable experience – as well as three regularly scheduled trains. Passengers will dine and dance 1999 away en route to the new millennium. CBC Television will air live broadcasts of the celebrations from different Millennium Trains.

In Montreal, the New Year’s Eve extravaganza will take place aboard the “VIA Private Dinner & Dance Gala Train.” The specially scheduled train will leave Central Station at 8 p.m. and return at approximately 1:00 a.m. Tickets for the Montreal Millennium Train celebrations are 00 (plus taxes) per person.

Special Millennium trains have also been scheduled in Halifax and Toronto. Three regularly scheduled trains on VIA’s western transcontinental route, The Canadian, will also host millennium festivities over portions of the trip across Canada.
