Christmas in Texas

Holidays in Texas are celebrated the only way Texans know how — big! There are big decorations, big lights, and so many big festivals, it’s hard to keep track, according to the humble folks at Texas Tourism.

With more and more Canadians either celebrating or planning a Texas Christmas, you can get a taste for a Texan-style Yule by visiting the Texas Tourism website and clicking onto the special Christmas section, “Texas Greetings.” Tourism is the third-largest industry in the Lone Star State. In 1998, travelers (many of them Canadian) spent more than $34.6 billion in Texas, an increase of more than 6.5% from the previous year.

The special Christmas section of the Texas website also offers some fun holiday treats. In addition to offering a complete calendar of holiday events throughout Texas, surfers can also send personalized holiday cards featuring Texas winter scenes, download free Texas holiday screensavers, and even plan a New Year’s celebration with a list of millennium-themed events.

There is also a new “Winter Texan”-themed section on the web site that will highlight activities, photos and events for those visitors staying beyond the holidays to enjoy the wm weather.
