Go for broke on New Year’s Eve

Those who really want to break the bank on New Year’s, but want to do it in Canadian currency, should check out the “package deal” being offered by a British Columbia resort. Vancouver Island’s exclusive Aerie Resort says that “driven by customer demand”, it has “re-formatted” its millennium celebration to a two-day event.

Following travel trends, guests indicated they want a memorable experience in a short time period. “Customers are saying they want something special, without spending 4 or 5 days,” says Markus Griesser, the Aerie’s General Manager.

They’d better get something special, at the Aerie’s prices. A 23-room Relais & Chateaux, set high in the Malahat mountains, the Aerie was recently named one of the top 100 places to stay in the world by readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. It is famous for its breathtaking views and award-winning cuisine, and also offers spa services on-site.

The down-sized Millennium Package includes two nights accommodation, wo dinners and two breakfasts, and a champagne reception (Moet & Chandon Millennium Series) to toast the New Year. The aptly-named “Timebenders” will entertain with good old rock ‘n roll and “String of Pels” will play elegant jazz. Rates start at, wait for it, $2,375.00 per couple, based on double occupancy. The good news? That includes all taxes and gratuities.
