Shaw Festival named top Canadian event

The American Bus Association (ABA) has named the Shaw Festival as the Top Canadian Event for the year 2000 Top 100 Events in North America. This prestigious award recognizes high levels of quality, cultural and entertainment value in various tourist attractions across the continent.

The Shaw was chosen from among hundreds of American and Canadian events nominated by state and provincial tourism offices and visitors bureaus. The diverse list of events includes festivals, exhibitions, fairs, sports events and more in each state and province. Of the Top 100, one event from each country is singled out for top honors.

The ABA selects events that appeal to group travelers and that showcase North America’s rich diversity. In selecting the Shaw Festival as the Top Canadian Event, the committee considered its vast appeal and accessibility to motor coaches.

Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, the Shaw Festival is the only theatre company in the world that specializes in the works of Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries – plays written between 1856 and 1950.

The 1999 season runs until November 28, including: A Foggy Day to November 14 and Rebecca to November 28 at the RoyaGeorge Theatre; and Heartbreak House to October 31, All My Sons to October 31 and Easy Virtue to November 14 at the Festival Theatre.
