Take your grandkids to look at the Queen

If you’ve always fantasized about taking your grandchildren on the grand European tour, this may be a very good year to do it. Aside from being an excellent way to help them remember the millennium, competition in the European travel industry is heating up. The result is some very reasonable air fares, and even free travel if you book early.

Children under 12 years of age can ride free this summer on the Eurostar train connecting London with Paris, Brussels, Calais/Lille or Disneyland Europe, according to an announcement by the Eurostar USA Division of Rail Europe. Children must be accompanied by adults paying First Premium, Full Fare, Leisure Fare or Passholder Fare in first or second (standard) class or those paying Senior Fare (first class only).

Eurostar travel may take place anytime between June 1 and August 31, but tickets must be purchased in North America between June 1 and June 30 to qualify for this promotion. For each adult ticket purchased, one child may travel free. One-way full fare on Eurostar costs $351 in first class, and $239 in standard class.

“With this special promotion, more families can afford to add a second country to their European vacation ung Eurostar’s convenient high-speed service,” says Bernard Frelat, President of the Rail Europe Group, a leading North American supplier of European rail and related travel services.
