8 Most Memorable Red Carpet Looks At The Grammys

Unlike most award shows, guests at the Grammys always march to their own beat with red carpet looks that seem to indicate there is an anything-goes dress code. And thank heavens for that.

In a month populated with award shows, fashion fatigue can start to set in as the gowns begin to look the same as starlets and their stylists are loathe to take any fashion risks. Young actresses often hope to expand their exposure by landing a fashion campaign, a cosmetic contract or a Vogue cover and they are not going to risk the chance of landing on any worst-dressed lists.

So it’s left to musical artists to entertain us on the red carpet with their outfits. While most of the celebrities who turned up Sunday night at the 59th Grammys put their best foot forward sartorially, there are always those that opt for shock-and-awe tactics when it came to their attire.

Click through for our roundup of some of the most memorable looks on the red carpet at music’s big night.

When you have a powerhouse voice like Adele, you go for grown-up glam. She rocked the red carpet in a Givenchy gown of unusual colour – pickle green – and embraced her curves by keeping the bodice form-fitting and the skirt soft and floaty. And the up-do sweep of her hair made her one of the more elegant of the night’s attendees.

Back in 2000, Jennifer Lopez made waves with her green Versace gown with plunging neckline. So infamous was the outfit, some say, it put her on the fashion map. Hard to top that look, now considered iconic, but the singer put her best foot forward last night in a gown by Ralph & Russo that showed she still has what it takes to rock.

Rihanna has reached fashion status of where she can wear whatever she wants. This outfit – you might be surprised to learn – is from Armani Prive, the Milanese label often associated with quiet elegance and refinement.

Celine Dion has stepped up her fashion game of late. Her Vegas shows feature some glam-slam looks and last year she attended the couture shows in Paris, looking tres chic. And recently she announced plans for launching a line of fashion accessories. Wearing a sizzling gown by Zuhair Murad, the singer shows she has some serious fashion cred.

It’s hard to top a meat dress – one of her many memorable red carpet outfits – so this seems like a pretty tame outfit for Lady Gaga. Fish-nets and fetish boots are hardly eye-brow raising but thank heavens she continues to thrill us with her voice and electric performances.

Sequins and feathers are a showgirl’s old-fashion trick of the trade for putting on a glamour look. But Katy Perry puts a youthful and modern spin to this outfit by Tom Ford.

Kris Jenner worked as fashion commentator on the red carpet for the Grammys. But showing she has style chops like any pop star, the 61-year-old Kardashian matriarch showed off her toned figure in a short lace dress.

When you’re a fashion queen like Beyonce and you’re pregnant with twins, well, this is what a maternity red carpet outfit looks like. The singer showed off her baby bump in a siren red sequin gown by Peter Dundas and accessorized with a $12 million dollar necklace by Lorraine Schwartz.
