“We recognized that travel is nothing new to an independent generation that came of age roaming Europe as college students toting backpacks,” says Dirk Terpstra of the motivation behind Europe Lives Travel, a web-based B.C. tour company launched with business partner Olaf Dijkstra.

“Now, with more time on their hands, they yearn to return to the free-and-easy wander of their youth – albeit with more comfortable accommodations than a youth hostel,” he adds.

With almost 200 walking and biking trips throughout the continent, from the U.K. (including Scotland) to Croatia and, next year, Portugal, the hot spots are covered. And if the mobility issue means that travellers cannot ride a bicycle or walk, Terpstra recommends having a look at its driving itineraries.
