Colgate-Palmolive Recalls “Exploding” Toothbrush

Colgate-Palmolive announced that they are recalling their “Colgate Motion Electric Toothbrush” due to a malfunction that may cause it to “explode,” according to a bulletin from Health Canada.

The government agency reports that Colgate-Palmolive received nine reports from customers, all claiming that their Colgate Motion Electric Toothbrush “exploded.” Colgate-Palmolive also reported that no long-term injuries were sustained by any of the customers.

Though the “Motion Electric Toothbrush” is no longer in production, quantities of the product may still be found in stores nationwide. Health Canada recommends that those who own the toothbrush cease using it. The “Colgate Motion Electric Toothbrush” is not licensed for sale in Canada any longer and all remaining units in stores will be removed as the recall is completed.

According to the Health Canada report, The Colgate Motion Electric Toothbrush is a battery-operated electric toothbrush. The head of the unit contains both a rotating brush as well as a stationary brush. The handle or base of the unit contains the motor and the battery.”
