After losing his job, a middle-aged man reinvents himself by going back to college.

In Theatres Friday July 1

In the comedy-drama Larry Crowne, Tom Hanks, 54, plays the titular character, who decides to return to college after losing his job. Hanks, who directed, co-wrote and co-produced the film, describes the film’s message as a positive one: “It’s easy to surrender to the cynicism, and a lot of people have to face it, but Larry proves that the forward motion of him going back to school gives him the faith that something is going to happen. That is not only an upbeat message, but a very wise one.”

Larry Crowne is “the heartfelt crowd-pleaser of the summer”!

“-Larry Crowne looks to be the heartfelt crowd pleaser of the summer. Paired with the likes of Julia Roberts, Bryan Cranston, and Cedric the Entertainer, Hanks has the ability to shine as this slightly off kind of guy without ever detracting from the performances of the co-stars.

Larry Crowne looks to have all the elements of an odd, fish out of water story without going overboard into the extremes of weird or quirky. While the movie will certainly appeal to an older (out of their teens) generation, it’s the kind of movie that- will not disappoint when it comes to humor, situational comedy, and romance. See it as soon as you can!”

Role of teacher was written for Julia Roberts

Hanks had some teachers who looked like Julia Roberts. “I would see them and think, I love you.  So there was never anyone but Julia. Still, even after she said yes, I was the boss. That meant I got to say, ‘You don’t wear this dress, you wear that dress.’ And Julia’s Julia—she can be intimidating [Laughs].”
