Tokyo’s Oldest: Missing and a Mummy?

Two of the oldest people in Japan have some pretty strange stories surrounding their existence (or lack there of).

Tokyo’s oldest woman, 113, has been missing since 1986. This was found out shortly after discovering that Tokyo’s oldest man had actually been dead for 30 years. No kidding! Officials went to congratulate Sogen Kato as the oldest man in Tokyo at 111 and “uncovered mummified skeletal remains lying in his bed,” Kato’s family pretended he was alive in order to collect more than $100,000 in pension payments.
