Gloria Vanderbilt Opens Up About Son Carter’s Suicide to Son Anderson Cooper

Today on Anderson Cooper’s self-titled talk show, his 87-year-old mom, Gloria Vanderbilt, opens up about the day Anderson’s brother committed suicide.

It was 1988 when Carter Vanderbilt Cooper fell from the 14th-floor of the family’s NYC penthouse apartment. Vanderbilt says, “He let go, and there was a moment when I thought I was going to jump over after him.” She explains that it was Anderson, 21 at the time, who gave her a reason not to jump. She tells Cooper, “I thought of you and it stopped me from [jumping].”
