Prince Philip Rushed to Hospital with Bladder Infection

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was rushed to London’s King Edward VII hospital earlier today to treat a bladder infection. Buckingham Palace announced the 90-year-old “is understandably disappointed at missing tonight’s Jubilee Concert and tomorrow’s engagements.” It’s believed the prince will remain in hospital until later this week.

Prince Philip was scheduled to attend the remaining Diamond Jubilee events with the Queen, including tonight’s Buckingham Palace concert, headlined by Sirs Paul McCartney, Elton John, Cliff Richard and Tom Jones, and tomorrow’s church service and carriage ride from St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The prince, who turns 91 on Sunday, braved the cold and rain for hours yesterday as he stood alongside the Queen and other members of the Royal Family to witness the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant – a grand-scale event reminiscent of a similar celebrations held in honour of Anne Boleyn (1533), King Charles II (1662), and King George I (1717).

The prince’s attendance at the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant is not believed to have played any part in the infection.
