‘Ghost’ Turns 22!

Coppola may have recognized his acting chops in The Outsiders, which introduced dirty dancer Patrick Swayze to the world in a big way, but it was his smooth moves in Ghost that really made us – and Demi Moore – fall in love with the man. Who can forget the way Swayze’s Sam and Moore’s Molly threw that clay on the pottery wheel? The film, which opened 22 years ago today, raised both Moore’s and Swayze’s stars as sex symbols to the stratosphere, and in a supporting role, where much of her screen time was opposite Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar. Swayze’s character may have transcended death in the film, but in 2009, after a valiant battle, he succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
