As they say, all things must come to an end. In this case, 71-year-old Russian gymnast Larisa Latynina’s 48-year-old Olympic record has finally been broken. On Tuesday, American swimmer Michael Phelps one-upped Laynina with 19 medals, becoming the most decorated Olympian in history. After almost a century with the record of winning 18 Olympic medals for the Soviet Union, Latynina joked that it was time for a man to be able to do what a woman had done long ago, according to  the New York Times. She admitted that she enjoyed watching Phelps and said, “I wasn’t thinking about this or that. I never held onto my record like that.” Click here to read more about Latynina and how she felt about her record being broken.
