Princess Anne arrives in Brazil for Olympic Games

Princess Anne has arrived in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The 65-year-old royal has touched down in Brazil for a three day conference with the International Olympic Committee, for which she is a British representative.
Following the conference, the Princess Royal will attend the hotly anticipated Opening Ceremony on Friday (05.08.16) before enjoying another 10 days watching the world’s best athletes compete.
Princess Anne is a huge sports fan, with a particular fondness for horse riding.
And whilst her daughter, Zara Phillips, won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England for team eventing, she won’t be able to see the 35-year-old equestrian take part this year as she failed to make the final team.
A spokesperson for Zara said at the time: “Like anybody else, Zara really wanted to represent her country, but I’m sure she also wanted to make sure that the best team goes to Rio.”
Horse riding is close to their family’s heart and Princess Anne recently opened The Princess Royal Stand at Cheltenham Racecourse.
Speaking at the official opening, she said: “I’m hugely impressed by what has been achieved here on time. I know that new stands cause their own particular issues when people have been coming here for a long time but I don’t think it will take a long time for you to work out your own rat runs and it will be just as good as it was in that sense.
“The viewing perspective is much greater and there will be much more to enjoy. So a huge thank you to Cheltenham for what they have invested in National Hunt racing so we can all enjoy it. I am really touched that you should have asked me to lend my name to this stand.”
