At 6,962 metres, it is also ranked second of the seven highest mountains of each continent and can be found in Argentina. The first recorded climb was in 1897 by a Swiss mountain guide although it is possible that it was climbed by the Incas, who have left evidence of their climbs on a number of Andean summits.
