Home decor trends seem to be always changing; however a few popular trends from 2011 are here to stay in 2012.

Home decor trends are about as fickle as a teenage girl. From paint colors to furniture styles, your interior design is in one minute and totally out six months down the road. Thankfully, there are more than a handful of popular trends from 2011 that are here to stay in 2012.

1. Gray Walls

Who knew this unlikely wall color had staying power? A popular choice for homes in 2011, this neutral has proved itself by being a top pick for 2012. For the second year in a row, warm grays with blue or brown undertones continue to be more popular than icy, pale shades.

2. A Pop of Color

Last year was all about adding a well thought-out pop of color to a room. Accents in strong shades of yellow, blue and green are set to be featured once again this year. However, this year’s love affair is with neon rather than jewel tones.

3. Mixing

Bohemian is back for a second go around! Feel free to create rooms that mix interesting fabric textures, pair vintage with modern furniture and feature wall palettes that combine solid colors with eclectic patterns.

4. Globetrotter Style

Globetrotter style, a close cousin of mixing and matching, is big again this year. You don’t need to have traveled around the world to take advantage of this decor idea. It’s simply a matter of hanging a series of unlikely pieces together to create a story that reflects your life and adventures. This could mean hanging old family photos with a pair of vintage gloves or peppering a shelf with postcards and knick-knacks from around the world.

5. Wallpaper

If you bought into the wallpaper trend of 2011, go ahead and breathe a huge sigh of relief. There’s no need to redo your walls two years in a row — wallpaper is still very much in style.

6. Imperfection

Streamlined and perfect is out again this year, meaning you’ll see more furniture and accent pieces that wallow in their perfect imperfections. This includes industrial finishes on cabinetry and wardrobes, as well as oddly shaped bowls, vases and sculpture.

7. Reclaimed Materials

Going green is still gaining popularity. Thanks to continued focus on the state of the environment, 2012 is set to prolong the love affair with vintage pieces and furniture made from recycled or reclaimed materials.

When it comes to trends — less is more. Avoid feeling like your decor is old news each season by focusing on one or two ideas that reflect your personality and enhance what you already have.
