Is There Anything Iris Apfel Can’t Do?

90-year-old Iris Apfel has most certainly lived a colourful life. She has worked at fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily and for interior designer Elinor Johnson before launching a textile firm with her husband, Carl Apfel, called Old World Weavers in 1950.

In recent years though, Iris has cemented her place as a major player in the fashion world. The style maverick was mixing vintage with haute couture long before it was the cool thing to do.

With her inimitable sense of style and love for the eccentric, Apfel has inspired jewelry collections, fashion bloggers, museum exhibitions and countless lovers of fashion, and she isn’t stopping there. As the latest MAC collaborator, Iris Apfel is now trying her hand at makeup. She has created a riveting 20-piece collection that is just as bold as the woman behind it. Naturally, the range is heavy in the bright lip department but also includes bright shadows and nail polishes, a brow pencil, mascara and beauty powder.

The line is already a hit, as one of her lipsticks Scarlet Ibis was recently used on the runway for the Erdem spring/summer 2012 show. With news of Meryl Streep’s historic Vogue cover and now this, it seems to be the month for Zoomers.

The line is set to hit MAC counters on Jan. 5.
