Is there a government RRIF?

Question: I have heard that the Federal Government has some kind of RRIF plan. Is this correct?

Answer:

Yes. It is called The Canada RRIF, and there are no fees attached to it. The plan is very limited, however, in that it can hold only Canada Savings Bonds and Canada Premium Bonds. That means you’ll have a very safe RRIF — the chances of the Government of Canada defaulting on its bonds is so low as to be negligible. However, don’t expect a high rate of return. Interest paid on CSBs and CPBs is at the bottom end of the scale.
