Michelle Obama is offering fans a late ticket to her multi-city book tour for The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times with a brand new podcast.

Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast, which arrives on Audible next month, will centre on conversations the 59-year-old had with famous friends during the multi-city tour, which wrapped up in mid-December.

“Like so many people around the world, I felt isolated, disconnected, and discouraged during the pandemic,” Obama said in a statement announcing the new podcast. “Writing The Light We Carry was a way for me to make sense of it and reflect on some of the biggest challenges we all face in life — and the tour was an incredible way to share those stories with my readers and connect with real people once again.”

She added that, “The best part is that this time around I got to bring some of my best friends and favourite personalities to join in the fun. That’s what Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast is all about — it’s a deeper examination of those fun and meaningful moments … I can’t wait for you all to take a listen.”

The book, which Obama described as “a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve used to keep me afloat amid uncertainty,” is the former first lady’s second memoir. Her first, Becoming, broke national sales records with its release in 2018 and was also promoted with a whirlwind book tour.

The new podcast features sit-downs with an eclectic group of journalists, artists, activists and celebrities, including Tyler Perry, Conan O’Brien, Oprah Winfrey, Hoda Kotb, David Letterman and the poet Elizabeth Alexander.

The offering is the first to emerge from a multi-year, multi-project deal between the Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, and Audible. The Obama’s signed on with the Amazon-owned audio company after splitting with Spotify, who produced her first podcast, The Michelle Obama Podcast.

A joint statement between the two companies said the podcast would “explore themes like building meaningful relationships, issues connected to race, gender, and visibility, the habits and principles they have used to successfully adapt to change and overcome obstacles, and the importance of lighting up for others to reveal the richness and potential around us.

“As ever, Michelle Obama brings her trademark humour, candour, and compassion while she discusses her tools for living in today’s world.”

Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast premieres March 7 on Audible, with eight episodes released on a weekly basis. Each batch of episodes will run exclusively on Audible for two weeks before becoming available on other podcast platforms.
